International Ladies Garment Workers Union Strike, 1909-1910

  • 100% Completed
The ILGWU strike that unfolded in New York City from November 1909 to March 1910 served as the first step in what some historians call the “The Great Revolt” that occurred between workers and management in the garment industry between 1910 and 1914. Over 20,000 women, many of Jewish and immigrant heritage, took the lead in striking for better wages, hours, and conditions. This project focuses on the months spanning from January 1909 to May 1910 in order to capture the circumstances before, during, and after the strike.
