New York City, 1961-1962: Bessie Jones
In 1961, Bessie Jones traveled from St. Simons Island, Georgia, to New York City and asked Alan Lomax to record her biography and repertoire, which he did with his then wife, Antoinette Marchand. The interviews lasted over a period of three months and resulted in fifty hours of recordings and these 46 groups of documents mostly consisting of interviews and rich anecdotes.
