St. Simons Island, Georgia, 1961-1974

Initiated in 1935, Alan Lomax's relationship with Gullah-Geechee singers from St. Simons Island, Georgia, blossomed into deep friendships. He worked with the Georgia Sea Island Singers as they navigated the complex cultural space of the 1960s folk music revival.
