Campaign Tips
Transcribing Silent Film Music Cue Sheets
In this campaign, we aim to transcribe nearly all text found in these 1,600 cue sheets for silent film from the 1910s and 1920s.
Our goals in transcribing these historical cue sheets are to enable keyword search and to improve discovery of these materials from the early days of film.
DO transcribe
Capture the cue sheet's descriptive text - including titles, publication information, and advertisements.
You should also transcribe tempo markings, such as moderato, allegro, allegretto, etc.
Transcribe these in the order they appear on the page.
DON'T transcribe
Do not transcribe musical notation - including time and key signatures or dynamic markings (f, p, cresc., dim., <, >, etc.)
Do not transcribe hyphens (or melisma) within words.
Do not transcribe excessive ellipses between text. If many ellipses are present, please only transcribe three of them.
