Canon Law: Catholic Church and State
“Canon Law” is one of the six original categories of the Spanish Legal documents collection. In these documents, “canon law” refers to the ecclesiastical law enforced by the Catholic Church in 17th–19th century Spain and Spanish colonies in the Americas. They include papal decrees, issuances by provincial bishoprics, opinions of legal scholars of the Church on a range of issues, briefs concerning cases before the Church, jurisdictional agreements between bishoprics, and statements concerning vicariates in the Americas.

“Derecho canónico” es una de las seis categorías originales de la colección de documentos jurídicos españoles. En estos documentos, “derecho canónico” se refiere a la ley eclesiástica aplicada por la iglesia católica en España y sus colonias a partir del siglo XVII hasta el siglo XIX.
