Personal Correspondence, 1832-1895

Complementing the General Correspondence series of the Joseph Holt Papers is the section designated as Personal Correspondence. Correspondence with and about Holt’s wives, Mary Harrison Holt (1811-1846) and Margaret "Maggie" Wickliffe Holt (ca. 1821-1860), is included, as is additional correspondence with other family members and friends. A significant number of letters in the Personal Correspondence series are written in French, many of which may have been written by women with whom Holt was emotionally or romantically involved.
