Prospective engagement with Mary Owens dissipated, new courtship with Mary Todd started in 1841. Ended initial engagement with Mary Todd in 1841 and suffered period of depression. Romance with Mary Todd resumed in 1842 followed by marriage same year. Son Robert Todd Lincoln born August 1, 1843. Lincoln formed a new law partnership with William H. Herndon in 1844. Son Edward Baker "Eddie" Lincoln born March 10, 1846. Lincoln elected Whig Congressman for one term from December 6, 1847-March 4, 1849. After losing re-election he resumed legal practice in July 1849.
