Honeymoon Diary, 1910

  • 100% Completed
George Patton and Beatrice Banning Ayer met as teenagers when their families were vacationing on Santa Catalina Island off the coast in Southern California in 1902. Beatrice, the daughter of industrialist Frederick Ayer, was raised in wealth and privilege. Her friendship with Patton deepened during his years at West Point, 1904-1909. After securing Frederick Ayer’s permission to marry, the couple announced their engagement in March 1910 and were married in Boston on May 26, sailing two days later for a honeymoon trip to England. Patton started a travel diary on June 3rd when they landed in Plymouth but abandoned it several days later.

Patton’s honeymoon diary is handwritten and difficult to read. It begs transcription!
