Icon in the Making

Available for transcription are programs, invitations, flyers, and other publicity material from Parks's ‎speaking engagements and events honoring her. They trace the evolving way Parks was remembered ‎and honored by the American public. Some of the earliest events were organized as fund-raising ‎benefits to assist the Parks family as it struggled financially in the aftermath of her arrest. Later events ‎focused more exclusively on celebrating her as an iconic national hero and the "mother of the civil ‎rights movement."
