Icon in the Making
Available for transcription are programs, invitations, flyers, and other publicity material from Parks's speaking engagements and events honoring her. They trace the evolving way Parks was remembered and honored by the American public. Some of the earliest events were organized as fund-raising benefits to assist the Parks family as it struggled financially in the aftermath of her arrest. Later events focused more exclusively on celebrating her as an iconic national hero and the "mother of the civil rights movement."
