Montgomery Bus Boycott Notes and Letters
This section includes notes and letters written by Rosa Parks during the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Rosa Parks participated in the planning and coordination of carpools, which made the boycott possible. Her notes contain instructions to passengers and drivers, encouraging both to be patient. Also included is a 1955 Hallmark datebook printed for the Montgomery Fair department store where Parks worked as an assistant tailor. Parks repurposed the datebook as a notebook during the 1956 boycott. Among her notes are lists of bus witnesses, carpool drivers, and NAACP workers, and notes and letters relating to legal matters and speaking engagements. Three letters written by Parks in 1956-1957 to people outside the family discuss her arrest, the boycott, and her speaking tours.
