  • 100% Completed
President Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) was a prolific writer of books, articles, and especially letters, and received as much mail as he sent. His correspondents ranged from heads of states to average Americans, and covered a wide range of topics. Discover what Roosevelt and his correspondents had to say about the issues of their day.

Faced with opposition in Congress during his final two years as president, T. R. turned to executive orders to further his policies, such as the conservation of national forests and natural resources. In 1907 his administration confronted a crisis in the financial markets, and sent the “Great White Fleet” of battleships on a tour around the world (Dec. 1907-Feb. 1909). The presidential election dominated events in 1908, as T. R. worked to elect his chosen successor, William H. Taft.
