Highlights the efforts of Helen Pitts Douglass to maintain her late husband’s legacy. After Douglass’s children contested his will, Helen secured loans to purchase Cedar Hill and worked to raise money to sustain the estate. In 1900 she helped establish the Frederick Douglass Memorial and Historical Association to preserve Cedar Hill as a national monument.
